Website Creation Help

Just because a little fake, non-time-consuming site making guide helped me make my website some five years ago, I decided to make one too.

There are many steps in making a website. First, and most important of all, is knowing some basic HTML. HTML is the coding which makes websites look the way they do. Every website includes HTML, or a different kind of coding. There are many ways to learn these website coding, including websites. These are my favorite coding help sites:

w3schools.com
neopets.com/help/html1.phtml
htmlgoodies.earthweb.com

There are many other coding tutorial websites out there, so don't be discouraged if those didn't help. All you have to do is look for them. It may take awhile for you to fully understand HTML, but once you get a basic knowledge of the coding set up, now you're ready to get a place to host your site. Sometimes hosting is expensive, but there are many free hosts out there. Honestly, I think free hosts are crap. If you're serious about your website, you'd buy a genuine host, with a domain name. (Er, I shouldn't be talking I'm on a free host too -_-') Some are:

freewebs.com
bravenet.com

Those are the best quality free hosts out there. Out of the two, I'd prefer freewebs.com. I'm hosted on it, and I have been using their hosting services for years. :)

So now you know some HTML, and have a host. Before you start making a website, I'd make some practice pages so you can test out your host, and your HTML skills. Try doing some different things, and once you found the style you like, you're ready to start your layout. The layout is an important part of any website. Any visitor will first rate your site based on your layout, and therefore it needs to grab their attention. You need to think of colors to use, if you're going to use images, etc. Now might be the perfect time for you to get some picture-editing programs. Some good ones are:

GIMP (I use this!)
Paint Shop Pro
Adobe Photoshop
Animation Shop (I use this!)

Once you get the hang of those, you can start editing your content, and eventually getting your website up! Once you have it up, make sure you don't let it die! Always add content to it, and try to get as many visitors as possible. I hope I helped, and good luck with your website!
